The 2025 Tennessee Science Olympiad state competition is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025 and will be held in-person at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. The 2025 tournament details will be announced soon!
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville began sponsoring the Science Olympiad State Tournament in 1994.
Prior to 1994, the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) in Oak Ridge sponsored the state tournament. When a reorganization of that museum made it impossible to continue sponsoring the tournament, UT assumed the sponsorship. Tom Broadhead (Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences) was the first director at UT, serving from 1994-96.
The current administrative home for the Tennessee Science Olympiad State Tournament is the Pre-College Research Excellence Programs housed in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Tennessee. Science Olympiad is supported, as well, by various colleges and departments across the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus.
The Tennessee State tournament will be on Saturday, April 5, 2025 held at the University of Tennessee.
The top 20 Division B and 20 Division C teams will be invited to the State Tournament.
If your school registered on the Tennessee Science Olympiad platform for the Regional tournaments, then they do not need to register again for the State tournament.
Teams advancing to State will get an invitation from the Pre-College Team.
