The 2023 Tennessee Science Olympiad state competition is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2023 and will be held in-person at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. Please see the 2023 tournament details are below.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville began sponsoring the Science Olympiad State Tournament in 1994.
Prior to 1994, the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) in Oak Ridge sponsored the state tournament. When a reorganization of that museum made it impossible to continue sponsoring the tournament, UT assumed the sponsorship. Tom Broadhead (Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences) was the first director at UT, serving from 1994-96.
The current administrative home for the Tennessee Science Olympiad State Tournament is the Pre-College Research Excellence Programs housed in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Tennessee. Science Olympiad is supported, as well, by various colleges and departments across the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus.
The top 31 teams from the Tennessee regional tournaments will advance to the state tournament. State tournament is hosted at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus in the Mossman Building. Tournament scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2023.
